Presently the federal government has no avenue that recognize rehabilitation because of the abolishment of parole in 1987. I represent Claborn Colbert who was convicted as an accessory to second degree murder in 1994 at the age of 16. He has now served 26 years on a 35 year sentence. However, during his incarceration he has received numerous of diplomas including his GED and two years of college courses as well as microsoft certification in which he currently uses at UNICOR as a logistic clerk. Once release it is his desire to finish his college education and become a Black History professor at a college or university.
