Marisela Ortega started this petition to President Donald J. Trump and

In March of 2003 the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) division was established within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The primary mission of ICE was stated to “prevent acts of terrorism by targeting the people, money, and materials that support terrorist and criminal activities.” Under the Obama administration ICE was instructed to arrest only people who were targeted in advance, this administration prioritized removing those undocumented immigrants who had committed serious crimes.

Today, under the Trump administration ICE is mandated to target anyone in the U.S. illegally; this means separating families and detaining children. ICE routinely detain men, women, children, and infants. Currently, there are no regulations or enforceable standards regarding detention conditions, including: medical treatment, mental health care, religious services, transfers, access to telephones, free legal services, and library materials.

The current fiscal year budget is 8.8 billion dollars, yet basic human needs are not provided to detainees, they are forced to live in abusive conditions. During the global pandemic of the Novel Coronavirus-19 detainees have been subjected to chemical warfare in the name of protection; by being sprayed with HDQ Neutral every 15 minutes. The manufacturer of this solution states “it is harmful if inhaled and causes severe skin burns and serious eye damage”.

The citizens of the United States of America collectively demand that the immigrants detained by Border Patrol and ICE be released from the dangerously primitive shelters in which they have been placed. These humans have committed no crime in their attempt to flee a corrupt government and a nation that threatens their lives. The citizens of the United States of America also collectively demand the defunding of ICE. This division has separated families, violated human rights, and terrorized our communities.
