Dear President Trump and Cabinet:

In your 2019 state of the Union address, you urged lawmakers from all sides to come together through the “boundless potential of cooperation, compromise, and the common good.”  We are requesting your administration to work with environmental legislators and advocates to push for environmentally friendly policies that would create U.S. jobs while simultaneously helping protect the planet for future generations. We appreciate your administration’s great efforts to help average Americans through tax cuts and bringing jobs back to the U.S.  Under Andrew Wheeler’s leadership in the EPA, we also are astounded at grants to help protect states and cities with clean water and air.  For continued help with average Americans and making the U.S. prosper more with jobs and a strong economy, we urge for your administration to explore and advance some of the following initiatives.

Increased wind and solar energy

Today, renewable energy continues to be a strong and resilient U.S. industry, while also providing 8% of energy use in the U.S. (https://www2.deloitte.com/us/en/pages/energy-and-resources/articles/renewable-energy-outlook.html  This energy can create millions of jobs and also save the U.S. and global economy trillions in costs over the coming decades (https://www.drawdown.org/solutions/electricity-generation/wind-turbines-onshore  With the help of great Republican leader’s like former Iowa governor Terry Branstad, wind and solar energy has become a global trend (https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/opinion/columnists/2017/02/11/branstads-leadership-made-wind-energy-successful/97755502/  If your administration supported this example at the national level, how many millions of good, sustainable jobs could be brought to the U.S. economy.

Reduced food waste

We appreciate your administration’s efforts to offer education about a large amount of food wasted in our nation, Mr. Trump, while millions in our nation still struggle with poverty and hunger.  As the E.P.A. website states, in 2015 37.5 million tons of food went to waste (https://www.epa.gov/recycle/reducing-wasted-food-home  We urge branches of your administration to push for reduced food waste in businesses, homes, and schools.

Silvopasture in the U.S.’s farms and life-stock pasture

If the U.S.D.A. and under appropriate agencies under your administration could help to advocate and educate for silvopasture grazing for farmers and ranchers, the results could lead to more crops grown and safer conditions for live-stock.  Farmers and ranchers could have greater revenues from growing nuts, mushrooms, and other tree crops while also protecting cattle from fires.  National implementation of this system could lead to billions in revenue over decades for farmers and the economy (https://www.drawdown.org/solutions/food/silvopasture

Global equality and education for women

As the United States continues to be a global leader in economics, military, and influence, we push your administration to push for global gender equality and greater education for women.  Approximately 25% of women in the developing world do not attend school (https://www.peacecorps.gov/educators/resources/global-issues-gender-equality-and-womens-empowerment/  We recognize this issue is close to your heart and family, Mr. Trump, as we see your wife Melania and daughter Ivanka advocating this issue.  We urge your administration to push for legislation and diplomatic efforts to bring about global change in this area.

We thank you, President Trump and your cabinet for your service in the past two years to make the U.S. a greater place and bringing new jobs and helping make the economy robust.  We urge you to work on the above issues to help bring more jobs to the U.S. while also helping the environment for generations to come.
