Create a independent police conduct authority that can issue and revoke policing licenses
Why this petition matters
‘"His name was George Floyd. He can be seen on a video Darnella Frazier posted to Facebook, shouting “Please, please, please I can’t breathe,” as a Minneapolis police officer held him down for minutes, with his knee on Floyd’s neck. Shortly thereafter, he was dead.’
(taken from CBSN Minnesota)
This case is extremely tragic, but was preventable. Derek Chauvin, the man responsible for Mr Floyd’s death, had 12 prior cases of police brutality, all of which were essentially ignored. If there was a fair and unbiased authority assessing any of these cases, Mr Floyd’s death might not have occurred.
This is not an isolated case. In the few days since the murder of George Floyd, dozens of police brutality cases have occurred, many of which sadly will not be assessed by the police officers’ respective PD’s.
Thus, it is clear that a policing reform is needed across the United States. That is why an independent authority which can issue and revoke policing licenses is needed in all 50 states. This will allow a fair and thorough assessment of all cases of policing misconduct, restoring faith in the US policing system for a safer country.
To help prevent more cases like George Floyd, Tamir Rice, Philando Castille, Sandra Bland, and many more, sign this petiton today.
