Why this petition matters

Started by Uh Beep

I am not the best student in the behavior role. I have this “Anti-school” nature. This is because I have all these points and facts in my head about how all this stuff simply doesn’t apply anymore, that I can’t keep it all in my mind, and have to say some of it out loud, to my classmates. If you would like for me to go into detail, I will:

There’s background checks on school, claiming that school, 150 years ago, prepared students to work in factories, which would explain why we do things exactly as told, when to do it, ask permission to relieve bodily functions, and sometimes even get denied. That kind of teaching may have been acceptable 150 years ago, but don’t you agree that things have changed a lot since then? Pretty soon, most careers will be moderated by robots. And no one can do a robots job better than a robot, so that also means companies won’t be hiring because of our grades, if we’ve memorized a fact, we have google for that. (rhyme included) Soon, companies will be hiring because of people’s ability to collaborate and be creative. That being said, you’ll see dozens of students graduating class, straight into the unemployment line. Because creativity is the most important leadership skill, and if you don’t believe me, maybe you’ll believe the 1,500 executives who said that creativity is the most important leadership skill. All we get at my school is 40 minutes a week of “ let’s put students in groups and give them an assignment and hope they collaborate. “

Because that’s not collaboration, that’s- I don’t even know what that is. And with so little room for the things that actually matter, it’s to no surprise that I’ve developed depression not one month after this year started. I hear a lot of teachers say “You can lead a person to a fountain of knowledge, but you can’t make them drink.” And to that I say “No, school puts salt in their food to make them thirsty.” Because it’s frowned upon to do otherwise. And I’ve seen that no one can deny it, not even a therapist from the children’s hospital, but yet, still nothing changes. And with all my points stated, I think it’s pretty safe to say, “School prepares you for a future that doesn’t exist anymore.” And go ahead, give me detention, suspension, because anything you do I believe is worth it. Heck, I explained all the things that go on in my school to the therapist, and you know what she did? She asked me if I was being serious. And we can no longer face it, this educational system is terrible. And I don’t have much faith in school, but I do have faith in change. Maybe not for us, but for future generations, them carrying on what today’s society requires, not to name all the battles of the civil war, but to have leadership and ideas. This is getting lengthy, but it just goes to show how much I’ve crammed in my mind and accepted for simply too long. Stay with me. Albert Einstein once said. “Everyone’s a genius one way or another, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” Not only does this education system make fish climb trees, it also makes them climb back down, and do a 10-mile run. Do you know how many students relate to that fish, giving up their hopes and dreams to learn how to write a poem? It honestly should be illegal. Get this, Finland has shorter days, homework is non-existent, and teachers are paid reasonable salaries, and their students are some of the best in the world. The meaning behind education is “Educe” which means to bring the best out of someone, while this school crams facts and knowledge INTO their minds, and still address it as education. I don’t know how to do taxes, finances, how to make an investment, have a stable job, but at least I know about the cycle of water. If school really wanted students to have freedom, they would understand that school should be shorter, and also get the fact that an hour of sleep would be more beneficial than having students highlight paragraphs in an assessment, do problems 1-60 in a workbook, and have 3 assignments due by the end of the week. You see, school gives us so much work, but doesn’t teach the time management skills to deal with it! This education system teaches you how to memorize the dots. True education should teach you how to connect them. These great companies, Apple, Facebook, YouTube, etc. we’re all created by dropouts! The creator of IKEA, they didn’t drop out of school, no, they didn’t even go to school to start with! This just goes to show that the people who aren’t affected by this cramming have more time and energy to think great ideas, instead of focusing on doing the mandatory study guide that I will never use. So it should let us follow our dreams! And not crush them. That is what I think about this, and I’m simply trying to have change because this can’t go on any longer, or the results will be lethal, and no one can deny it.

Credits go to Prince EA, as well as my own knowledge, I just crammed it all into one paragraph. All I need from you is a signature, and we can put an end to this.
