Benefits for war veterans with an Other Than Honorable Discharge that the VA denies.
Why this petition matters
I'm a 9 year highly decorated war veteran of 2 wars that I fought in and served my country honorably. I got Court martialed at a special court martial for BAH fraud because I failed to report that I got divorced. I was convicted of Frauds against the United States, and Larceny. I flew myself to Pensicola, Florida without being accompanied by a Master At Arms to attend my court martial with papers from my Lieutenant Commander and Lieutenant with the highest recommendations to keep me in service which is very rare to have high ranking officers to put their neck on the line for their Sailors. I did 6 months in a military prison and was asked after I served my sentence if I wanted to stay in or get out. I was a single father with custody of my 1 year old daughter and my time was coming up to have to go back overseas to fight again. I didn't want to leave my daughter with no mother nor father so I chose to get out. My Commanding Officer called me into his office and told me that he would give me a General Discharge under Honorable Conditions. Three days prior to my separation he changed his mind and gave an Other Than Honorable, it was too late to change my mind at this point. I got shafted by the Navy. I went to the VA to get my disability benefits for PTSD, hearing loss and other medically documented disabilities that was in my medical record. In the VA handbook it specifically states the and service member with any discharge other than Dishonorable Discharge is eligible for benefits. The VA has continued to deny me my earned benefits due to Character of Discharge for the past 12 years. I, like over 400,000 other veterans like me have getting shafted unjustly by the VA and I need you, Mister President to put the hammer down on this like no other President has. I know that you truly care about us and no other President has except for Bill Clinton which raised our pay in a huge way to where we could afford to live and support our family while serving our country. As it was when I got divorced, I couldn't afford to live on what I got paid at the time with the Single BAH rates.
