Our nation's future depends on educating our children and giving them skills early on to participate successfully in civic and economic life and become life long learners.   Our current 40 week school year exacerbates inequality and fails to address the needs of the modern economy. Our current model for post-secondary education has left generations saddled with over $1 Trillion in debt, sapping economic vitality and fostering navel-gazing learning environments with no accountability to students and parents for outcomes. The American Education Revolution proposes to add 4 weeks to the K-12 school year and provide a voucher to every high school graduate for 1 year of post-secondary education and training (2 year, 4 year or vocational / technical training).  In addition, post-secondary education debt would be dischargeable in bankruptcy after 10 years with the discharged amount charged to the educational institution receiving the funds.
