The Department of Education wants to stop school children all over Western Australia from having music tutoring during school time. In rural areas the tutors will not have the after school availability to continue teaching children currently having lessons at school. The tutors already have large waiting lists for after school spaces, sometimes up to a year.

Students at Dunsborough and Vasse Primary schools have been having private tutoring in drums, piano, guitar and vocals for over 10 years. This arrangement has been highly successful benefiting the students with consistency, concentration, persistence, responsibility, learning techniques as well as the ability to play an instrument.

The job of the government is to be flexible, keep abreast of changing times and circumstances, and do what is best for the people and the community. Why would the government want to take this opportunity away from our children when this private tutoring program has been proven to enhance their educational lives over the course of the last 10 years?
