Funding clawbacks must be returned by York University

We, the graduate students of York University, demand that the Faculty of Graduate Studies return the funds they have already deducted from our minimum guarantee package. This deduction approximately amounts to $2000. The deficits are mostly from the following three sources:

1- Vacation pay: based on the Employment Standards Act, the vacation pay must be received on top of our Minimum Guarantee Funding (MGF).

2- Graduate Financial Assistantship (GFA): The value of GFA for each year of study has been determined in the CUPE 3903 Unit 1 and 3 Collective Agreements (CA). The difference between GFA of a particular year and the GFA of the admission year must be received on top of the MGF.

3- TAship wage: The wage for a full TAship in each academic year has been determined in the CA. The difference between a full TAship salary for a particular year and the admission year, multiplied by the total number of TA duties in that year must be received on top of the MGF.

Just to give a sense, for a 3rd year PhD student, the extra fund supposed to be received on top of the MGF is more than $1960. Therefore, we ask the FGS for an immediate refund of all the above sources deducted from our funding in the previous years.
