As parents in this community, we want what is best for our children. Many parents are extremely concerned with current board members who are up for re-election, along with some new candidates.

Experience speaks for itself. While Cheryl Smith and Steve Projansky have sat on the board for the last 6 years, this is what has occurred:

• Our curriculum remained stagnant and we are now years behind other districts in elementary literacy and math.
• Our district’s ratings have dropped significantly.
• Eastchester was one of the last districts to get back to school full time in person and now our children are paying the price for their inaction. Our children are struggling academically, socially, and emotionally. 
• The fields at Anne Hutchinson, Greenvale, and Waverly have been neglected and become unsafe. The fields are in such poor condition that Eastchester Little League and Eastchester Youth Soccer Association had to step in to help. 
• Eastchester has had several breaches in security while our students were in the buildings.

We need Board members who aren’t afraid to advocate for our students and families.

Steve Projansky was the Waverly board liaison last year. When parents were begging for help for their young kindergarten and first graders, who were struggling with hybrid learning, he said and did nothing.

In February of this year, Cheryl Smith would not vote “yes” to allow kids to umask outside, and to eat lunch at a table instead of on the floor. Parent choice and voice is all we ask for. If your choice is not “Cheryl’s choice”, can we be confident she will be able to represent every child’s needs? History would suggest, “no”.

Cheryl and Steve's obsession with data, research and consultants has cost our taxpayers money and has negatively impacted our childrens social, emotional and educational growth.  There is a real price to pay for inaction—and our children have paid the price for far too long.

Aside from these current Board members, a new,  has shown a lack of understanding and acceptance for those families who have made different choices from her own. We need Board members who are truly inclusive. We need Board members who will be open-minded and unify our district, and accept our personal choices and differences. In the following clip, shares that directed own children to stay away from unmasked children. In statement, continues to shame those children and their family’s choice to unmask, suggesting that they would be the ones to put people’s lives at risk. This type of fear mongering is unacceptable and divisive.

We need empathy, action, and new beginnings on our Board of Education.  We need board members who will advocate for every child.
