The former East Northamptonshire council has been exposed for an alleged disgusting abuse of process by former council chief executive Of ENDC after an alleged associate of his a local solicitor is alleged to have made false claims about food poisoning following a disagreement. Mr monks the victim of this alleged abuse of power was then fined without the proper investigation process being followed and when unable to pay imprisoned. He lost his 3 pub businesses, his house and his health has suffered, so quite rightly after years of unfair suffering he has been awarded compensation in an out of court settlement agreed by the new unitary authority.

But apparently this bill is to be landed on the general tax paying public of Northamptonshire by an estimated £35 hike on council tax which will presumably be on top of yearly inflation, I for one am not happy to pay for other people’s wrong actions and that’s me putting it politely. To date the 2 main alleged instigators of this entire Situation have not been prosecuted - surely it should be the responsibility of The alleged perpetrators of this vile campaign against Mr Monks to foot the bill and not the general public of an area where the local authority has consistently failed its residents let’s not forget why East Northamptonshire council no longer exists.

After Northamptonshire county council went bankrupt in 2018 the 7 local councils were scrapped and split into 2 unitary authorities. We have seen drastic cuts to local services, bus subsidies scrapped aswell as libraries and children centres closing down, roads in the local area are in shocking conditions and this was all pre pandemic and yet the public got a 5% council tax increase, upon reflection I can understand why this would be necessary but I am still disgusted that those responsible (the councillors) were not held to account and made to pay for their own mistakes - I can only hope lessons are learned on this one and that in future incompetence in local government office that negatively affects its residents actually becomes a punishable offense. It’s morally corrupt that the people of Northamptonshire have been left to clean up the mess caused by their elected councillors.

In the current climate of the cost of living increasing at a phenomenal rate for most families it is unjust to be asking the general public to take on the cost of someone in authority’s mistake.
