In 2020 I left my ex husband due to emotional and mental domestic abuse. The abuse was reported to police, it was taken to CPS and my ex husband was just given a fine. This completely destroyed me, as I felt like it was a tap on the wrist and there was no discussion with him as to the seriousness of his actions. The damage he has inflicted upon me will be with me for the rest of my life. I suffer horrendously with anxiety and depression now. I have a little boy to my ex husband and there was an injunction in place stopping any contact towards our son for 18months. Due to his “good behaviour” he has now been granted unsupervised contact with our little boy. I feel all his horrific behaviour towards myself and at times our little boy has been completely disregarded. So now I have to face him after everything he has put me through and even worse hand our little boy over to this incredibly cruel man. I am petitioning for emotional and mental abuse to be taken much more seriously and for their to be serious consequences if this behaviour is inflicted upon an individual. Physical abuse is NOT ok and is dealt with, so why shouldn’t emotional and mental abuse be the same? Please support me in fighting to get more justice for this cruel behaviour.
