Why this petition matters

Started by Ernie Shepherd

We all love our neighborhood but there’s still much to do for our furry family members. Macquarie Park has no fenced off-leash dog areas where to take our puppies. Creating an off leash section in Tuckwell Park, Fontenoy Park or Christie Park  will give residents a much needed area to exercise their dogs walking distance from home and not having to drive to other areas like North Ryde , Lane Cove or West Pymble.

These are large parks where neighbors already congregate, where there’s also some land space left for the Ryde Council to provide a fenced solution, this not only will rise community spirit, but also would encourage pet owners to enjoy the outdoors areas more. The provision of dog off-leash facilities is justified by the demonstrated social and health benefits associated with well-designed and located facilities. The benefits accrue to dogs (socialisation, safe exercise), dog owners (social capital through shared experience) and the general community (reduced conflict in parks, fostering of responsible dog ownership).

The population of Macquarie Park will grow at an annual rate of 3% between 2019 and 2036, far exceeding the 1.6% average of Greater Sydney, and considering Australia has one of the highest pet ownership rates in the world – with 62% of Australian households owning a pet (38.5% owning at least one dog) ; the request for a fenced off-leash dog area in Macquarie Park is a MUST

The Facebook group Macquarie Park Community Watch  would like to obtain as many signatures as possible to request Ryde Council to provide a long term solution for this need. Thank you for your time
