Let's solve our plastic problem

Let's solve our plastic problem

Problem
Already plastic consumption and plastic waste in country is growing at alarming rate. India discards 80 % of plastic as waste and at least 40% of this waste is uncollected. Today the country generates more than 26,000 tonnes of plastic waste daily which can harm our environment irreversibly. India is now ranked 12th in list of countries which are most mismanaging their plastic waste.
Currently the focus is still on producing new plastic and not on its recovery through recycling. Plastic recycling is failing to reach its full potential as low recovery rates of plastic waste, poor quality of recycled plastic and a lack of price incentives are holding back secondary plastic markets.
If attitudes don't change, the annual plastic production will increase many folds along with the associated challenges.
Solution
The biggest hurdle to plastic recycling and waste management is non-segregation of waste at source which makes plastic recycling difficult. All smart cities must introduce 2-bin-1bag policy, which has better potential for resource recovery and safety to handlers rather than 2-bin which is currently being implemented in these cities.
Let's not litter our plastic and allow it pollute our land and water.
Impose stricter laws for the import of Plastic waste and save our future generations!
