For those who may not be aware of the proposed school zoning changes anticipated to be presented to School Board for approval, I encourage all UP residents and homeowners to attend the public DISD board meeting on November 16th @ 6:00 PM @ 1307 N Locust St, Denton, TX 76201 in the Central Services Board Room. The current proposed rezoning as presented tonight, if approved by the Board, would split all of Union Park south of Fishtrap Rd and rezone all of it to attend Paloma Creek Elementary. Even if you don’t have elementary school aged children, attending this meeting and pushing for the board to create/approve a new zoning plan (which would include keeping all of UP homes to stay zoned to UPE) could potentially directly effect all of UP south’s (Phase I and Phase II) selling potential.
Resell value aside, splitting the children from the rest of their community with the current rezoning plan isn’t what any of us signed up for or were promised when we bought our homes, and we certainly don’t want to let this current rezoning plan go through without doing our best to petition changes. If there’s one takeaway from tonight’s meeting it’s that we need to let our voices be heard at the upcoming Board meeting if we wish to avoid the affects of the proposed changes. From what I gathered, the Board wasn’t in attendance at tonight’s meeting but they will ultimately be the ones that have the final say about the current proposed rezoning plan. Please come let your voices be heard at the Board meeting on November 16th and ask them to reject and improve the current plan. It won’t happen in its own — UP needs you!  You can also voice your concerns here and online at the link below. Do both so we can all stick together as a community and speak against splitting up Union Park.
