Why this petition matters

There is a bill filed in the Tennessee state legislature HB1927 by Briggs and Lambert. According to state representative Gloria Johnson who opposes this it basically redefines Marijuana as applicable to criminal offenses, thereby establishing that Marijuana includes hemp which has a thc concentration of more than . 3% on a dry weight basis. This will ban delta eight and other CBD products.
For many people with epilepsy and other diseases CBD offers them help not previously available. I know people who for the first time are finding a measure of control over an illness which has destroyed any quality of life they have ever sought. It is wrong to deny them that option. My wife has had epilepsy since birth and has experienced the trials of medication that offers no where close to the degree of control or relief she has sought. She has also found that some medications have crippling side effects. This is not an argument to replace medication. She will probably always need medication. This is an argument to allow people access to a substance as an adjunct to medication which gives people with no hope hope for the first time in their lives.
Linda has both epilepsy and tardive dyskinesia. She has been in crisis for the last three weeks. The medicine for the tardive dyskinesia has terrible side effects including increased depression and suicidal ideation. She has been in extraordinary danger. The doctor told her to stop the medicine. Stress produces seizures. Seizures have been daily for the last three weeks. She has literally not been able to function. Two days ago we finally got enough money to buy CBD including some things this law would make illegal. It has been a miracle. Tremors from the tardive dyskinesia have dramatically decreased. Seizures have basically stopped. Two days. This bill would make both me and her guilty of criminal behavior.
Please share this petition and speak to others. The efforts of disabled and sick people to deal with their illnesses should never be criminalized in a decent society. This bill would only protect the interests of a pharmaceutical industry alarmed by the reliance of more and more people on CBD. It protects nothing. It only harms people harmed too much already.
