"DO NOT LET THE DEATH PENALTY BE ENFORCED"

The death penalty is capital punishment, a state-sanctioned practice of killing a person as a punishment for a crime. The sentence order that an offender is to be punished in such a manner is known as a death sentence, and the act of carrying out the sentence is known as an execution. Most death penalty cases involve the execution of murderers although capital punishment can also be applied for treason, espionage and other crimes.

When the death penalty is implemented, it violates the right to life, which is the most fundamental of all human rights. It also violates the right not to be tortured or subjected to other cruel, inhumane or degrading treatment or punishment. Furthermore, the death penalty violates human dignity, which is inherent in all humans. There have been and will continue to be cases of innocent people being executed. The rich or those in a position in life who have committed a crime can escape this penalty because of money but poor people who are not the perpetrators will receive this penalty because they don't have enough money to escape the law.

The Philippines ratified an international agreement in 2007 that specifically forbids executions and commits the country to abolish the death penalty. This obligation cannot be revoked legally at any time. Since the death penalty was abolished in 2006, the Philippines has been a vocal opponent of capital punishment, championing several initiatives in international forums. It has also worked to have death sentences commuted for Filipino nationals living abroad, such as overseas workers.

Also, the adoption of a draft law by the Philippines House of Representatives to reinstate the death penalty puts the country on a dangerous path that is in flagrant violation of its international legal obligations. Today, the Philippines House of Representatives passed House Bill 4727, a measure proposed by President Duterte's majority coalition to reintroduce the death penalty.

Lastly, we invite everyone to sign our petition, because in this petition, we do not allow death penalty to be imposed here again in this country. We believe that everyone can change, maybe incarceration of a guilty person is enough. But it depends on a person's crime, whether imprisonment should be the only punishment for their sin. We all have a family to support. What if a person with a family is accused because of a fault that is not his, and the punishment for him is the death penalty? An entire life of imprisonment is enough to pay for the crimes committed. How can a person realize the mistakes of a crime that they made if they are sentenced to death penalty?
