Catto Lodge is going to be demolished because it doesn’t fit in with the cultural direction that the new park management have decided to take. Catto Lodge was named in honour of my grandfather for his work in uniting the community to make his dream of turning Melville Caves into a park. His foresight has given this area greater protection but also made it more accessible for everyone. It is the last of the 3 original buildings. It has been used for Weddings and funerals. Family reunions and celebrations. Concerts called Music for the People have been held here. Over 3 thousand people attending one of these events. All the money raised by the community from these events was put back into the park. I believe as a sign of mutual respect that this nearly 70 years old shelter should remain. Please help save Catto Lodge.
