Safe Bus Stops for All OCSD Children

As some of you know, my 11-year-old daughter was recently assigned to a bus stop by the Oneida City School District that is addressed to a level two registered sex offender. Her stop was then relocated to a corner immediately next door to a level THREE sex offender. The district's superintendents now refuse to change her bus stop to a safer location, which is available. They say that legally they are not responsible for her safety until she boards the school bus. I'm told that this has happened in previous years. There is no plan currently in place to keep this from reoccurring. I was told today by a member of the district's transportation department that "sex offenders have rights too." I ask, what does this have to do with my daughter's safety at a bus stop? What about her right to walk safely to her bus stop each day without fear or worry?
In addition, one of the people assigning these bus stops resides on my street. At the absolute very least, my daughter's second bus stop should've been checked before it was assigned. If this is not an astounding example of complete disregard and incompetence, I don't know what is.
No parent should have to wonder each day if their child has made it to school safely from a bus stop assigned by their school's district. A school district should be able to ensure a reasonable amount of safety for our children.
"Be the change you want to see in the world"--This change starts at home, with our children and families. Stand up. Ensure the safety of your children and the children of our city.
Please join me in telling the Oneida City School District that this is not acceptable and will not be tolerated.
