Require trigger warnings for DSBN course material & clubs
Require trigger warnings for DSBN course material & clubs

Students with mental health problems, past trauma, and mental illness deserve to feel safe in their classrooms. This can be achieved in Niagara Region public schools by petitioning the DSBN to require teachers to give trigger warnings for discussions and content involving:
- Suicide & Self Harm
- Rape & Sexual Assault
- Slurs & Derogatory Terms
- Eating Disorders
- Extreme & On-Screen Depictions of Violence
- Extreme Depictions of Discrimination (Ableism, Racism, Homophobia, Sexism/Misogyny, and Transphobia) [not required for electives in which this is expected, such as gr. 11 and 12 history]
- Child Abuse
Read the link at the top of this description for a more in-depth look at my proposal, as well as examples of content and class discussions in which these triggering topics have come up without warning.
As small as this type of request may seem, these warnings can be the difference between life and death for some students, or even the difference between happiness and a relapse or traumatic flashback. I have experienced this myself, and I want to help.
