Add Eid Holidays to the DSBN Public School Calendar

Add Eid Holidays to the DSBN Public School Calendar
As a community, we are requesting the school Board to add Eid to the public school calendar.
We are not asking for special consideration, instead, we are asking the district to honor its diversity, equity, and inclusion statements by giving ALL students the right to practice their faith traditions, worry-free, with a day off from school.
Right now, our students have a difficult decision to make each year when it is Eid. Do they go to school and miss celebrating one of the holy days of the year with their families? Or do they miss school and compromise their education, possibly missing important tests, or risk falling behind on new topics being introduced, or having to catch up on enormous amounts of work?
Our children are part of the community and need to be recognized as such. Students who practice diverse faith traditions help create inclusive communities by raising awareness, increasing tolerance, and giving back to the community that they belong to!
We are requesting the district to make the Eid Holidays official holidays for the district and give the students the right to practice their religious traditions with a day off from school.
We need to make the steps towards change for our children, so that they can be proud Muslim Canadians!
Please support this humble cause and sign our petition of support!
Sincerely,
Muslim Community of Niagara Region
