Protect Hearst Park
Our goal is simple - to ensure the preservation of Hearst Park and to encourage the DC Council to provide the neighborhood with the proper level of transparency and input into the renovation process. To be clear, we are not opposed to the development of an outdoor pool in Ward 3. However, we believe that any decision as to its location must be based on a comprehensive examination of the ward, including an exhaustive environmental analysis of its impact on any existing green space and residents. To date, we do not believe that the Council has demonstrated that such an examination has been done, nor that Hearst Park represents the optimal location for this facility. And if after such an examination is done and if Hearst Park is deemed to be the most suitable site, then the Council must provide for a more honest and transparent dialogue with the neighborhood to allow us to be a strong partner and key constituent in this process. Many of us chose to live here because of Hearst Park. We have spent our lives using and maintaining this space - and that use is woven into the fabric of our families’ fondest memories. We ask for your help in preserving and protecting that which is closest to us.
