Why this petition matters
In Washington DC, poverty rates for Black Americans double in percentages when compared to their White peers. The chances of a black child who is born into poverty, escaping this generational cycle are alarmingly slim. Although education reform efforts have helped decrease these rates by providing high-quality education, research tells us, that Black Americans are still 228 years behind.
The school founders are dedicated and committed to closing the racial wealth gap that Black students face. In order to combat poverty rates within our communities, we are opening a high school that provides a high-quality education, addresses the racial wealth gap, and affirms who our students are characteristically.
We are seeking approval from DC Public Charter School Board to open our school in 2021, The Garden will open its doors as the first community high school offering a business and entrepreneurial program in Washington DC. The Garden is proposed to serve 9-12 grade students. The Garden is a comprehensive school that is taking a holistic approach to educating students through financial competence, real-world experiences, and rewarding opportunities.
We hope you align with and support our efforts to close the racial wealth gap and open our school!
