The Eagle Chopper trials in Christchurch have proven to be an intrusive and disruptive solution in responding to crime. If we allow this helicopter to be a permanent part of our city landscape our choice for peace and quiet in our city will be compromised. Peace and quiet is a fundamental human right. The intrusive presence and sound of the helicopter is at odds with Jacinda Ardern's government's well-being initiative. Our government should actively seek solutions to reduce noise pollution in our environment and this petition is asking for a quieter solution.

This petition

  • is not opposing the use of aircraft such as helicopters in responding to crime prevention but asking for the Police to find a quieter solution. Other helicopters do not have the same intrusive frequencies.
  • wants to know how the police and government are concerned for public wellbeing in response to the helicopter noise i.e. what they will do about it? What research have they done?
  • wants to know are the police aware that other cities around the world actively respond to reducing helicopter noise.
  • is asking for public release of the helicopter running costs.
  • is asking for release of all information regarding the helicopters capabilities to be released to the public.
  • is questioning the reported statistics relating to the helicopters use (star news 9th March).
  • is questioning why the police are manipulating public perception with colouring competitions and rugby event visits
  • wants to know why the Christchurch City Council can not act on complaints regarding the helicopter noise.
  • suggests that the helicopter is incompatible with the geographical nature of the Christchurch landscape as opposed to Auckland where it is less pervasive.
