"Every 15 seconds in America, a woman is abused. One out of every four women falls victim to abuse at some point in their lives."

My name is Valerie and I am a survivor of Domestic Violence. I survived the unthinkable. On August 20th of 2012, the police rescued me from my house. I told my story on the Dr. Phil Show which aired on Monday, October 8, 2012: A Husband Accused: Holding His Wife Hostage?” (http://www.drphil.com/shows/show/1888).

On December 18, 2012, I sat in the courtroom and listened as Wallis Brooks, the Assistant District Attorney, withdrew all charges against my husband without prejudice. I was not allowed to address the court. I could not tell the Judge my side of the story, present any evidence or express concern about how the case had been handled. I had to sit there as my husband walked out of the courtroom with his family and his freedom. That day the Justice System victimized me all over again. If it were up to everybody in that courtroom I would disappear, never to be heard from again. They don’t want my case and what went on in that courtroom and leading up to that day to be brought to the public’s attention. I won’t allow that to happen. They underestimated me and my resilience. I will not give up. I will not go away. I will fight until my last breath to get the justice I deserve.

I feel there is ample evidence in this case to pursue a conviction, but the District Attorney’s office will not take any further action. To this day I still suffer from a debilitating case of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and Hyperacusis as a result of the abuse. My husband needs to be held accountable.

At this time, I can't discuss the details of the case because of legal reasons. I am asking you to look at the Dr. Phil Show and ask yourself if that was my sister, my daughter, my friend, would you not want them to have justice? All I want is my day in court because the evidence will speak for itself.

I need everyone reading this letter to sign the petition. I believe that with all of your support we will be able to get the District Attorney to reopen the case. Tell a friend, a family member, a neighbor, everyone you know about this petition. Every signature counts. Together we can make a difference.

I appreciate you taking the time to read my story and I hope you will stand by my side in my fight for justice! Time is running out to re-file charges. Please sign the petition today.

I have also provided information below for you to contact my Representative, my Senators, and the Pennsylvania Attorney General, and ask them to reopen the criminal case and have the charges re-filed against my husband. The petition will not automatically be sent to them when you sign it. Therefore, in addition to signing the petition (which will be sent to all of the other officials listed), please take a few minutes to either call or fax a signed copy of the petition to each office listed. This is the most effective and reliable way to contact them. Again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for your support. This is a critical moment in my life and my recovery and I greatly appreciate anything you can do for me. By taking action today, we will make a difference.
