Dear Concerned authorities,
The fact that the Regional Science Centre will be coming to Mysore is Music to the ears of the Students, Academicians, Parents and to all the general Mysore loving people. We whole heartedly thank you for this decision and shall always be grateful to you. We are eagerly waiting for the day this centre starts functioning, so that we the residents of Mysore and nearing areas can be benefited by this.
Along with this good news also comes a shocker that the “Kukkarahalli Tank Bed” has been chosen as the place to house this centre. As a diehard Mysorean we always feel that Kakkarahalli lake is the pulse of every Mysorean and it is a prized procession for each one of us. We do not wish to harm it.
Construction of a building for the Regional Science Centre was objected to by various concerned NGOs and Individuals, for the reason that it will endanger the water body and disturb the birds which roost and nest in Kukkarahalli tank. Besides, it is an infringement of the rules governing the protection and conservation of tanks and lakes. We need the Kukkarahalli Lake at any cost.
It is understood that the work on the Regional Science Centre will restart. If it happens there will be large numbers of human movement and with them the numerous buses, 4-wheelers and 2-wheelers into and out of the area of the Regional Science Centre. Besides this, there will be canteen facilities, toilets, etc., and the consequent generation of solid wastes and sewage from the toilets. As learned Person I hope you can understand the environmental impact.
All this, with the already growing population and increased pollution of the tank will cause the destruction of the Kukkarahalli tank altogether along with its flora and fauna. Birds from all over the world flock to this place for reproduction from years, and this ‘Birds – Human friendship, has built faith among the birds from times immemorial. This should not be destroyed. Else, this will inevitably lead to an environmental nightmare with Mysore losing one its very valuable lake.
Therefore you are requested to re-locate the Regional Science Centre building to the land at any other place which does not cause any environmental Hazards to win the hearts of the Mysoreans. Please note that if this request-cum-suggestion to stop further work at the present site of the Regional Science Centre and relocate it is not acted upon the citizens of Mysuru will be constrained to renew their public agitation.
