Andrew Kelly started this petition to District 86 Board of Education

If district 86 put out a statement that said both schools would not open until the laws of the state treat all schools fairly it would cause an immediate uproar and make it impossible for the governor to ignore.

The schools have incredible leverage on this issue.

They should use it.

The question will be asked what authority the board of education has to close both schools.

Each board member takes an oath of office. Here it is (Jump to 1:25:00)

The first sentence of the oath states:

"I will faithfully discharge the duties of the office the office as a member of the board of education of Hinsdale Township Highschool District 86 in accordance with constitution of the United States and the constitution of the state of Illinois.."

From Constitution of the United States:

Amendment 5 - Trial and Punishment, Compensation for Takings

"No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation."

From the Constitution of the State of Illinois:

SECTION 1. INHERENT AND INALIENABLE RIGHTS

"All men are by nature free and independent and have certain inherent and inalienable rights among which are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. To ecure these rights and the protection of property, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed."

The pursuit of happiness is defined as a fundamental right mentioned in the Declaration of Independence to freely pursue joy and live life in a way that makes you happy.

Liberty is the state of being free; enjoying various social, political, or economic rights and privileges. The concept of liberty forms the core of all democratic principles.

A person cannot be free if their right to life is threatened. That the schools in the rest of Illinois now have a 10 mile buffer from Eto and our schools have less than 3.5 miles is a violation of the constitutional rights of the students that live in our district. District 86 would be within its rights to close both schools until the board could be sure that each school's proximity to Sterigenics does not violate the life, liberty and pursuit of happiness of each student that resides in the district.

It is time for district 86 to step up and protect our children!
