Victoria Mantia started this petition to District 75 Teachers Union

To whom it may concern,
As a parent of a special needs child and a teacher myself, these shut downs are unacceptable.  A year later and our children are suffering more than ever.  My son has autism, and is non verbal.  He thrives with routine, he loves school, he loves learning.  My son can not sign onto zoom or google meets on his own, he can not sit there alone to do any type of remote learning.  He needs constant supervision, and prompting.  District 75 should not be shutting down as they are now.  We just returned to school February 22nd, and are shut down a week later.  My son, along with all the other students are suffering.  They are not getting the services they NEED or the education they DESERVE.  As a teacher, remote learning/ teaching is a feat in itself, my general education students are not learning as they would be if in person.

First, children attending District 75 schools should be attending in person school 5 days a week. According to FAPE, my child should be receiving free appropriate public education. What is appropriate for him is for him to be attending in person education 5 days a week. Protocols for D75 should be different than the other districts in NYC. Classrooms should be closed down only if positive cases are found within that specific classroom. 2 positive cases should not warrant an entire shut down. This should be a priority for our entire NYC educational system, and I will contact all of the people necessary to see that this change is made. I speak for all of the parents and educators of children with special needs, that this is unacceptable and can not continue.
