Clarissa Williams started this petition to District 7 and

The Faculty, Students , Parents and Guardians of South Bronx Early College Academy of the district 7 community respectfully request the IMMEDIATE return of Ramon “Coach Ray” Acosta. We value his leadership, love and respect that he has exhibited to the students of South Bronx Early College Academy Charter School. His return is imperative to the children, parents and community due to the fact that he has unfailingly demonstrated genuine concern for the student and has continuously served as a positive role model. He has always instilled a positive sense of ambition and motivation to many children. Especially, to those that didn’t receive that support from their respective homes and surrounding environment. He has dedicated his life to effectively ensure that the children of South Bronx Early College Academy were involved in extra curricular activities as an alternative to hanging out in the streets. He has also inspired many children to have goals in life and has always expressed the importance of them achieving them so that they may have a bright and successful future ahead. Opting not to return Coach Ray to South Bronx Early College Academy poses a traumatic event in these parents and children’s lives and will be a loss of hope for the children that regularly needed the positive reinforcement that he has single handily provided for them. For most children , he was what made them desire to continue to get an education and to walk with their heads up high, even if they weren’t on a sports team. He worked hard to build a great rapport with the students and their families . Many students view him as a father figure or an older brother figure. His removal has caused a tremendous stress for the students and families and has been causing a great number of students to negatively act out in school because they disagree with and are furious about that decision. The students feel that their well being was not taken into consideration when that decision was made. He was even a safe haven for the children that we’re experiencing being bullied. He always emphasized that there was a zero tolerance for bullying and stood up for them. His doors were always open for the children that didn’t feel comfortable sharing the fact that they were being bullied with anyone else but him. Since he left, there has been great rebellion coming from the students. There has been riots solely because the children are displeased with his removal. Many children have been sent to detention as a punishment for this behavior and don’t care about the punishment because they feel as if they are taking a stand for what’s right. They want him back immediately and are willing to take whatever consequences that they will receive for their rebellion and so are the parents. He created a family like atmosphere for the students and parents , especially the parents that were struggling with keeping a handle on the child. It takes a village to raise a kid and he has provided the positive channels that were lacking in these students lives and has also provided emotional support to the parents to ensure that they knew that the did not have to do it on their own because he was dedicated to helping redirect their child’s mind to more positive things , so that these students won’t end up in gangs or in jail in the future. He has provided early intervention. He was more than a coach to these parents and students. He was an inspiration, friend, counselor, interceder, big brother , father and mentor. The families and students of South Bronx Early College Academy are devastated about his removal and are respectfully requesting his immediate return.
