County Ordinance 106-73, Operation of Golf Carts, has prohibited the use of golf carts within the I-95/Viera Blvd interchange since 21 October 2014, but it has not been enforced. Now that the Double Diamond Interchange is open for traffic on Viera Blvd, and nearing completion for traffic to and from I-95, it is extremely dangerous for golf carts to travel on the overpass. And because golf carts continue to break the law and pass over the interstate on Viera Blvd, either on the narrow sidewalks or the roadway, it is just as dangerous for the motor vehicles, bicycles and foot traffic crossing over legally. Once the on/off ramps are completed and non-residents begin using the interchange, golf carts will be an even worse hazard if they attempt to cross over.

It's time to stop golf carts from entering the interchange before someone gets killed. Depending on signs and police enforcement is simply a recipe for disaster, as cart drivers will continue to ignore the law if they think they can get away with it.

Please consider placing posts about 30 inches apart at each and every sidewalk entrance within the interchange. This will allow pedestrians and bicycles to pass, but not golf carts. If and when the sidewalk passage is widened and made safe for golf carts, the posts can be easily removed.
