Jen Becker started this petition to District 26 Board of Education

This petition is to encourage the District 26 Board of Education to provide buses for children further than 1.0 miles from Briargate Elementary School in Cary, Illinois. It is unsafe for the children of our community to walk to school for a number of reasons. Children as young as 6 years old are expected to walk over a mile down a busy main street to get to school. One safety concern is the unpredictable weather we have here in Illinois. The amounts of rain and snow that we get are significantly increasing each year. What happen if a child falls or slips on ice while walking this distance? How will they get help? An additional safety aspect to consider is registered sex offenders whom live within a mile of the school. Most importantly, the number of streets the kids need to cross and amount of traffic on Main Street  is quite concerning. If my daughter walked to school from our house, she would need to cross 8 streets alone, one of these intersections being Main Street and Georgetown which can be quite busy. The other main intersection of concern is Main Street and Cary Algonquin Road. Since the addition of the disc golf course combined with the dog park, the traffic on Main Street has significantly increased. All of these variables prove it is simply unsafe to expect them to walk this distance. Providing a bus for our children would not only insure they get to school safely, but would also alleviate some of the traffic at Briargate during drop off and pick up. Please consider signing this petition in support of buses for our children. Thank you
