Henry Ward started this petition to District 211

There is no excuse for forcing students to stay in 94 minute zoom calls, listening to their teachers drone on and on without the opportunity to engage in any physical learning or face to face interaction. Medical professionals describe 60-90 minutes of inactivity as immensely damaging to the human body. Though many students have opportunities to enter the school, this is not feasible for some. Teachers and faculty encourage a stationary set-up at a desk or table for the duration of the school day. With shortened breaks and passing periods, this only encourages a more sedimentary lifestyle.

Myself and many others find learning in this setting difficult enough in the 4 hour day. Extending it would only increase stress, cause  headaches, decrease allotted time for assignment completion, and could be detrimental for students who live by a schedule based on the current time frame. Encouraging a teenage student to wake up at 6 o’clock in the morning, spend 6 and a half hours on their iPad in zoom calls (not including homework or course,) and try to learn, is possibly the most unhealthy and preposterous injustice to the student body.

I request that you end all considerations of extending the school day to full length, until virtual learning is no longer the educational standard at District 211.
