Give the D158 Middle and High Schools a Later Start Time
According to https://med.stanford.edu/ sleep deprivation in teens can affect students in numerous ways. It can lower their ability to concentrate in school, which in turn could affect their grades and overall performance in school, and cause depression/anxiety. I believe that if schools were to start later, the students' performance would improve. I have talked to several students at Marlowe who come to school tired every day, and wish a change was made to the starting time of Marlowe. I know someone who goes to the High School who has to wake up at 5:00 AM just to eat a good breakfast before catching the bus. He has after school events that sometimes last until 7:00 PM, and still has to do his homework when he gets home. This leads to him going to bed extremely late, only to wake up at 5:00 AM and get only a few hours of sleep. In conclusion, I believe that if school were to start later, kids would be more enthusiastic about going to school and would try harder at school as well.
