Robert Paul started this petition to film distributors

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a devastating impact on the British Economy but nowhere as cruelly as the Cinema Industry. The Cinemas of Britain have done an impeccable job following guidelines and in many ways making themselves safer than even the supermarkets. But they are being let down because of the film distributors.

Due to continuing instability within the USA, the cinemas of New York and Los Angeles remain closed and this closure has lead to major releases such as Wonder Woman 1984, Black Widow and No Time To Die moving into 2021. The UK is not like that. 95% of cinemas in the 4th largest film market are opening. Films like Tenet and After We Collided that are releasing there make around 75% of what they would in normal circumstances. But yet Distributors both American and British are neglecting this major market. The UK cinemas cannot survive on Tenet alone. If they are not making £11.7 million a week BEFORE December, then the entire industry will collapse, leaving few cinemas left.

My proposal is this. The major film distributors should release their product EARLY in British (and European) cinemas and return to a staggered release format. This isn’t about giving cinemas some sort of raw cash “bailout”. This is about releasing the likes of A Quiet Place Part 2, The Kings Man, Ghostbusters: Afterlife and of course No Time To Die in cinemas before the end of 2020, before viewing habits permanently move away from cinemas and whilst there are still cinemas left.

If you build it, they will come. UK cinemas have built half of it, it is time for distributors to finish the job.
