DISEASED IMPORTED DAHLIA TUBERS, lets get them inspected!!
Why this petition matters

I belong to several DAHLIA group and see far too many diseased tubers arriving in the US and Canada sold in every Big Box Store, nursery, grocery store etc. LEAFY GALL and CROWN CALL are damaging our gardens and there is no cure. How is it possible that these imported packaged tubers can come into the country with no Inspection here? We can't move tuber stock across the border between Canada and the US either direction without a Phytosanitary Certificate, these millions of packages of imported tubers are rubber stamped in Holland? They arrive here in terrible condition with broken tubers and too many of them diseased in peat moss which if the tuber is a diseased one, the peat moss also carries the bacteria.
These two bacterial diseases are escaping now into peoples' gardens and to other plants being grown. One of the big problems is that both diseases can take up to two growing seasons to show up. The other is that unsuspecting people buy these readily available packages of tubers that have no idea what to even look for and plant them in their gardens. What is happening is a travesty and makes no sense to those of us who import both to and from Canada and the US which have been properly inspected and a Phytosanitary Certificate issues at great cost. It is time for this to be investigated and changed!!
