Animal Planet's newest hit TV series "Whale Wars" focuses on the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, a tax-exempt "environmental group". The show focuses on the efforts of the group to stop whaling activities carried out by the Japanese in the name of research.
The show makes the group, and their leader, Paul Watson, out to be crusaders fighting to save animals from being killed. The truth, however, is very different.
Sea Shepherd is not an environmental group, but a violent band of eco-terrorists who use intimidation and fear as weapons while believing they are above the law.
Sea Shepherd's tactics include intimidating sailors, throwing acid onto the decks of ships, spraying decks with water cannons, and even ramming ships and trying to board them. All of these are designed to cause fear and intimidation in an effort to get the whalers to stop, the very definition of terrorism, which is morally unacceptable.
Paul Watson is a misanthrope. He has stated that the Earth would be better off if humans went extinct, and even proposed solving ecological problems by culling the human population. Using terrorist tactics to achieve his goals is nor problem for him, as he has said "There's nothing wrong with being a terrorist, as long as you win." Some other quotes of Watson include:
"...earthworms are far more valuable than people."
"We did not sink those ships for you or for any of the six billion hominid a--holes on this planet…we could not give a damn what human beings have to say about the actions."
"The world will be a much nicer place without us [humans]"
Sea Shepherd and Paul Watson have no business being lauded by a major television network by being given their own show. We, the undersigned, therefore respectfully request that Discovery Networks cancel the show "Whale Wars" and refuse to give this admitted eco-terrorist any more platforms. Criminal activity and political violence should never be put in a positive light.
