Discontinue the use of iReady in Southwick Schools
Why this petition matters
No student or educator in my experience has ever said they like iReady or find it useful. iReady takes up 2 class periods per semester for high schoolers, waisting valuable class time for no good reason.
In grades k-8, students are required to complete iReady lessons for a grade. These lessons are meant to improve their English and Math skills, but in reality do not. One study from a California State Grad student on students in a California school with a similar program showed zero improvement in students who used the iReady lessons, despite the iReady diagnostic itself saying there was a substantial improvement.
iReady is an ecosystem which manufactures a perception of growth, while in reality contributing nothing and using valuable class time and dollars which could be spent elsewhere.
The Southwick-Tolland-Granville Regional School committee should immediately vote to cancel iReady testing, and reallocate the approximately $40,000 dollars it spends on this program a year to supplements which actually work.
