As a father of three young children and due to personal experience I have found that builders and tradespeople do not have to have a basic CRB check to work in a residential home setting. Two of my children were manipulated and befriended by a builder in order to establish a relationship with their married mother. While no crime was commited it shows, in my opinion, that there are gaps in the system and that a basic CRB check should be compulsory in these situations.

There are currently no rules or laws in place that require builders or tradespeople to be CRB checked even though some work requires them to be in these houses for months at a time with unrestricted access.

This leaves children and velnerable adults at risk of being manipulated or worse at the hands of any builders/tradespeople who are inclined to do so for a number of motives.

My petition is to make CRB checks compulsory for any and all builders and tradespeople who work in/on residential homes whether it be for 10 minutes or 10 months. With a CRB check in place this will help to protect our children and vulnerable adults from manipulation, harm or worse.
