Canadian Prime Minster Justin Trudeau has been quoted as saying “you can’t use a gun for self-protection in Canada” as well as “That’s not a right that you have in the Constitution or anywhere else”.

As the leader of Canadians, it would seem fitting that the Prime Minster leads by example. If that isn’t a right that Canadians have, then it isn’t a right that he or any other member of parliament has. As Mr. Trudeau champions gun control and firearm safety, it is appropriate that he follow his own beliefs and policies. If firearms are not for defensive use for citizens in Canada, then they are not defensive use for politicians. 

This petition is to have Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s protective detail disarmed. The RCMP members, the Parliamentary Protective Service special constables and any other armed police service member charged with guarding him, should not be using, semiautomatic handguns, semiautomatic rifles or fully automatic submachineguns. 

If this is good for the Canadian public, then it should be good for Canadian politicians. We need to ensure that the public has the same rights as politicians. The right to protect one’s self isn’t contingent what a person do for a living. All Canadians should be afforded the same rights, regardless of if they’re at the top of society or the bottom.
