Disabled Tenant Non-Renewal Retaliation

Disabled Tenant Non-Renewal Retaliation
The Issue
Hi everyone. My name is Chloe and I am a disabled individual living in Nashville, TN. I have been living in the apartment I am currently renting since July 2021. As many disabled people know, moving is extremely costly, and finding an apartment, especially when we cannot pay our medical bills and some fall to collections and impact our credit score, can be extremely hard.
I had a fantastic relationship with the leasing office at my apartment complex until I started standing up for disability rights for the members of my apartment complex, specifically my apartment building. We have almost a handful of individuals that are disabled in my small building (which I can tell because of their use of the handicap placard). When I started advocating to have an additional handicap spot put into our building, things got bad. My apartment manager started making up ADA laws, I had words put in my mouth, and numerous other unkind communications were made. I was also unkindly told that they were going to stop emailing because they were on vacation, but I was never expecting someone to email while they were on vacation, and I made that very clear in multiple emails.
During the first week of August, renewals were sent out, and I was denied my renewal. I received an email from the regional manager regarding reasons why people would get non-renewed a few weeks before I received my non-renewal, and I hit none of those things. She said that there were notes regarding pet waste, trash, and other complaints where I was involved, and I had gotten no contact about any of those and appear to have been falsely framed.
Now, unless I can get a disability advocacy agency to work quickly on my behalf, I will have to move to an apartment a little over an hour away from where I am living now. This is because my credit score has dropped due to my financial situation with being disabled, and it is the only place I could find within an hour radius that would take me. This keeps me away from doctor's appointments, work events, side hustles I do to make extra money, my community, and so much more. Not to mention the cost of moving is insane.
Please help my apartment community see that this non-renewal is wrong. I have email evidence to back up absolutely everything up. Signing this petition will help my complex see that non-renewal retaliation is not only illegal, but also extremely frowned upon. Thank you so much!
