Give Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Cal a Space to Train

This petition had 656 supporters

Since 2013, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at UC Berkeley has been training at Strawberry Canyon Recreation Facility. Since then, we have grown our club to a sizable 80 annual members and are still growing. We've successfully competed in competitions against multiple universities including Santa Cruz, USC, UCI,, UCSF, Fullerton, and more. We have a very strong presence here on campus, with an established 5th Degree Black Belt instructor, who teaches one of the only forms of sexual assault defense training on campus.

Last week, we were notified that the Strawberry Canyon Recreational Facility will now be re-purposed as a commercial event space, effectively removing Jiu Jitsu on our campus. We believe that the students in UC Berkeley are truly interested in having a space to train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and hope that we can find a place to train this semester and beyond.

We can no longer exist unless we are given a place to train. We are willing to train anywhere on campus at flexible hours, provided that we can store our mats in the location. We are willing to roll out and roll up our mats prior to and after every practice. Please support us in bringing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu back to the UC Berkeley campus.
