Why this petition matters

Started by Val Englert

A new rule being implemented for the fall of 2019 semester is that freshman at Ave Maria University are the only ones able to room on the first and second floors of JP2 and Mother Teresa. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have been at the school for over a year have almost no say where they room. We are restricted to the third and fourth floors. It is enough that the freshman have orientation to bond, they don't need certain floors to be able to do that. Freshman should be given rooms last while students who have been here, choose where they room, especially if they want the first or second floors. Students deserve to be able to choose, we should have that freedom.

Allow sophomores, juniors and seniors to choose where they room like they always have been doing.

I am a upcoming senior at Ave Maria and I have lived on the first floor with my other roommate since freshman year. It is a tradition for me to be on the first floor as it feels comfortable. And proof that you don't need to room on the same floor together to meet other freshman is me and my best friend. She is my other roommate. She lived in Mama T on the third floor and I lived in JP2 first floor freshman year and here we are coming up to our senior year and she loves the first floor in JP2 as much as me now and the floors didn't bring us together, a chance meeting did. We love the first floor and were so excited to room on the first floor for our senior year. We should have the choice, we have been here for almost four years and should be able to pick the floor and room.
