W.H.O should refrain from endorsing Traditional Chinese Medicine, which threatens Wildlife

The single biggest reason for poaching of Tigers (for their skin and bones), Rhinos (for their horn), Elephants (Tusks and other parts), several Reptiles, Carnivora and a host of mammalian species is to feed the huge demand for their body parts for use in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), which is one of the greatest threats to Wildlife globally. TCM uses a range of wildlife parts & claims to cure a host of ailments, using therapies which have no basis in science. Despite having no therapeutic effect, Wildlife parts have been integral to TCM. This has led to poaching and slaughter of thousands of Tigers, Rhinos, Elephants, Lions and other endangered species throughout the world over decades.

According to a recent publication in Nature (https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-018-06782-7 dated 26th September 2018, the WHO is about to endorse TCM in its annual medical compendium (to be issued by the Western Pacific office of the WHO based in Manila). Needless to say, such endorsement will give credibility to TCM and will have a disastrous effect on Wildlife around the world. Such a move needs to be opposed, tooth and nail!!

At the very least, WHO should clarify through an emphatic statement that it does in no way endorse any product of Traditional Chinese Medicine which may use any Wildlife part as an ingredient
