"That a lead BBC female presenter is considered less valuable than a lead BBC male presenter is unacceptable"

What is the purpose of this petition?

This purpose of this petition is to apply pressure of the BBC to take immediate and active measures in closing the gender pay gap.

Why have we created this petition?

The BBC has revealed today that two thirds of its stars earning more than £150,000 are male.

The highest earning male star (Chris Evans) earned approximately £2.25million. Whilst, the highest earning female star (Claudia Winkleman) earned approximately £500,000.  The difference in pay is simply unacceptable in 21st Century Great Britain.

Why is this important?

If a vast institution such as the BBC are adopting such disparity in pay, it is our view that this sets a concerning example for employers across the country.

What do we want?

We ask that Lord Hall (BBC Director General) takes immediate and active measures to close this gender pay gap. These measures should include (but not limited to) the following:

 1.    Carrying out a consultation on the reasons for the gender pay gap.

2.    Examining key policies that can be implemented across the BBC to close the gender pay gap.

3.    Executing creative methods to ensure women have the means and support available to them to earn the same as men for the same/similar jobs.

4.    The BBC to publish bi-annual reports to show their progress on closing the      gender pay gap.

We ask that you sign this petition.

Many thanks
