"Essential to public confidence in the judiciary is the assurance that justice is not for sale and that legal disputes will be resolved by fair and impartial judicial officers"
Sapna Kedia was a resident of a very small village of Kalahandi district in Odisha. She married to Mr. Binod Kedia from the neighboring district, Bolangir odisha, about 12 years ago. They had a happy married life during the first three years of their wedding and blessed with two daughters during this period.
After three years, her husband and in-laws started treating Sapna very badly. Sapna was subjected to domestic violence and was living a very pathetic and miserable life in her husband’s house over the last 8-9 years. During this period, her husband and in-laws tortured her both physically and mentally and abused her and her family with offensive language almost on a daily basis. She was beaten by her husband and in-laws by force in every 8-10 days through use of Chappal, Jhadu (Broom), sticks and whichever things that they manage to get in their hands. Sapna was not allowed to go out of her husband’s house without her husband or in-law’s permission. Sapna’s mother-in-law threatened her that they were so powerful in their district that even if she would approach police, they (police) would not take any action against them (Sapna’s husband and in-laws). Sapna’s husband and in-laws have also threatened her to kill her and her family if Sapna or her parents would complaint against them to anyone. On 25th May 2018, Sapna was again beaten by her husband and in-laws. Her husband also dragged her by pulling her hair and tried to strangle her to death. But somehow Sapna managed to escape from her husband’s house and now she and her family is running from pillar to post for justice.
Join me in this fight to demand fair and impartial investigation and trial by the concerned authorities and send these culprits behind the bars.
