Alan Best started this petition to Diocese of York and

This petition is to encourage the Diocese of York and St Wilfred's Church, Brayton to protect the land they own from being illegally used.

Over many years, this land has periodically been used as an illegal encampment which has brought disruption, inconvenience, anti-social behavior and criminality by those who have occupied it illegally. The result of this has affected the living standards of the community who have also previously had to cover the cost for the resulting clear up.

The responsibility of protecting this land is the solely the Diocese of York who own it. As it is private land, it is not the responsibility of Selby council or the local Police to remove illegal encampments or clear up the resulting mess.

The Diocese of York have so far been unwilling to engage with the local community or take responsibility for any illegal encampment. On the most recent illegal encampment they refused to apply for an eviction notice meaning that the anti-social action continued longer than it should have been necessary.

This petition is neither aimed as an attack on faith or those who chose to illegally take possession of the field, it is aimed at the Diocese taking ownership to protect the land from being used illegally and causing issues to the local community they serve.
