We, the undersigned parents/guardians of current and former St. Junipero Serra Catholic School students, would like to express our ongoing concerns regarding Mr. Tim Tolzda’s appointment as St. Serra Senior Principal to Dr. Erin C.O. Barisano, Superintendent of Catholic Schools, Diocese of Orange.

St. Junipero Serra Catholic School is one of the the largest PK-8 schools operated by the Diocese of Orange. It is home to many Catholic families seeking faith-based education for their children. However, while long-serving, expert Catholic principals run other OC Catholic schools, St. Serra is the absolute opposite. We have Mr. Tim Tolzda, a long-time public school administrator and a FIRST-TIME CATHOLIC SCHOOL PRINCIPAL, running our school.

We all chose St. Serra for the same reasons. We expect our children to receive a Catholic education from a school run by a superior leader with a Catholic school experience. Someone who is in touch with the Catholic community, has a positive outlook, and can collaborate with parents. Someone approachable, admirable, and willing to accept constructive criticism and grow as a result. None of these attributes apply to Mr. Tim Tolzda.

Many changes have been instituted, making our school closer to how public schools run. The differences are diminishing, and our school is starting to lose its Catholic roots. Mr. Tim Tolzda’s lack of experience leading a Catholic school is taking a toll on the St. Serra community. As a result, many families are dissatisfied, while others, including long-time teachers and staff, have decided to just leave.

Mr. Tim Tolzda is unfamiliar with how Catholic school works in all aspects of his role and is, without a doubt, unfit for the job he assumed last year.

We urgently request that a qualified, veteran, and skilled Catholic leader replace Mr. Tim Tolzda as our school’s Senior Principal!

We implore Dr. Erin C.O. Barisano to provide us a Senior Principal St. Junipero Serra Catholic deserves.
