According to the International RadioSurgery Association, approximately 140,000 people in the U.S. suffer from Trigeminal Neuralgia, with approximately 14,000 new cases annually. It affects approximately 12 out of every 100,000 people per year, according to the National Institute of Health.
Trigeminal Neuralgia is a chronic pain disease centered in the face, characterized by burning, zapping, crushing pain. It is also referred to as "Suicide Disease" as many people who have suffered from this, have taken there life because of the pain it causes. There are many treatments for the disease, from medications to brain surgeries, but there is currently no cure. These treatments either take the edge off the pain, or are temporary measures and for some no help at all.
This petition is an attempt to add Trigeminal Neuralgia to the Social Security Administration's list of disabling diseases and conditions. As it stands, people with this condition are finding themselves unable to do the most menial tasks, much less work, while being denied their disability claims time and time again.
I have watched loves ones die from cancer, TN has to be the worst disease to watch someone suffer from...No pain meds ease the pain, you don't know when it will happen and how long it will continue, you don't leave the house because you fear it will come on and paralyze you in pain, any movements can cause more pain.
I want to educate everyone about TN (Trigeminal Neuralgia) my mom suffers so badly from it - what is so frustrating is that paramedica, emts, nurses and some doctors never heard of it - She has had every possible treatment and nothing has helped. Please send this to everyone you know - Maybe we can help other suffers unite and get some help publicly to support this group and allow for more research on how to treat this horrible condition - I have been emailing newspapers, magazines, talk shows (whoever will put me in the public eye) - I want the world to know and hopefully get my mom out of pain and others relief before it is too late.......
TN is a nerve disorder of unknown origin that causes sudden shock-like facial pains, typically near the nose, lip...s, eyes or ears. It is said to be the most excruciatingly painful human condition in the world.
Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is not fatal, but it is universally considered to be the most painful affliction known to medical practice. By many, it's called the "suicide disease."
Those signing this petition feel that adding this disease to the SSA's list will give sufferers a fair chance at gaining the disabled status that they so desperately need.
I beg you to please do your research and how badly this has effective lives and is still not considered to be on the list.
