There is this common stereotype that people with disabilites cannot do the things normal people can do. Also, people are belittling persons with disabilities and that they are not given much attention.
Yes, they are disabled, but that doesn't automatically reflect that they are incapable.
They are DIFFERENTLY ABLED. They do things in a different way, but still bring positive outcomes and joy to the society.
We interviewed people from a non-profit organization "Autism Society Philippines" wherein their objective is to raise awareness about autism and to give support to the children with autism and their families. This organization gives an assurance that they will help children with autism to be their utmost potential and to show their extraordinary side as a contribution to the society.
We also have successfully reached and interviewed the Mayor of Marikina City, one of the persons we delivered this petition to, regarding programs and platforms for these people with special needs. It is seen that the promotion of rights and the welfare of people with special needs is a practice done in Marikina City. Various events, programs and support groups are provided and upcoming in collaboration with the PDAO (Persons with Disability Affairs Office) of Marikina.
We hope such support is also present not only in some areas, but the whole country and eventually, the whole world.
Let us show to the world that these people with disabilities are more than who they really are, that they can still do things like we do.
Remove the conventional image that they cannot do anything, because they can!
