Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act was first brought into legislation by Senators Dick Durbin (D) and Orrin Hatch (R) in 2001. The narrative of the DREAM Act has always been centered around preserving the innocence of the undocumented children. The legislation grants undocumented youth, who have arrived to the United States before the age of 16 and have continuous remained in the country for five consecutive years, the opportunity for permanent residency and eventual citizenship. Years of rejected proposals and failure to act on this issue have led many undocumented youth questioning their future. What is needed now is permanent action and the pursuit to pass the DREAM Act.
